De Haviland Rapide about to take off for Alderney. This seemed real string and sealing wax stuff, you could’nt hear yourself speak and you could see the wings and spars shaking. Landing in Alderney on a small grass airstrip after seeming to hedge hop on the way in was very nerve racking. The next time we flew there,they used Herons, 4 engine beasts, but quite small.
